Darbe Images: My Favorite Photos of 2020

2020 Be gone!

What a @#$%* ride. Am I right? It certainly wasn't a great year for getting away, or even out of the home to capture some unique photos. The pandemic took a hit on our economy, creativity and travel, amongst other things. I did get a drone this year, and experimenting with the DJI Mavic Mini was a nice distraction. I crashed it against a building in July. lol. Got it repaired and took it with me for a trip to Montana and Yellowstone Park in November. God, it was nice to get out of Miami for a few. It was my first time there. What an incredible place Yellowstone is. Oh, and I got a new kitty, named Quixote! I also had time to create some art this year. I have a love for mid century films, architecture and art. I've included below, a few pieces I worked on with that love in mind. Drop me a note and let me know what you think.

Happy New Year 2021!!

Darbe Images: Best Photos of 2016

Two Thousand and seventeen can't get here soon enough. Just a few more hours and we can say goodbye to the uniquely bad, 2016. A lot of celebrity deaths this past year. So many of them were 80's stars or icons we grew up with. 😔 My 2015 nightmare prediction that big city liberals would help make Donald Trump the next American president? That came true. Ooof. Terrorism affected my travel plans for the first time this year. I canceled plans for South Africa, shortly after the Istanbul airport bombing. And that city is still having terrorism issues as of earlier tonight. 😞 The Obamas - our generation's greatest POTUS and FLOTUS, are saying farewell to the White House but, word is, they'll still be very active on the social front in the years to come. Can't wait!

As for my photography? If you hadn't noticed already, my new website is live. Please check it out. I licensed a few of my photos for print projects this year. Most notably was my double page inclusion in the book, "Hip Hop Raised me", which was released worldwide by publishers Thames and Hudson. I shot the WebMD Health Hero Awards with Seth Rogan, Robyn Roberts, Maureen McCormick and a host of other notable celebs, musicians and world renowned medical experts. That was this past November. All in all, it was a good year for me, on the photography front.

In case you missed them on Facebook or Instagram, here's a few of my favorite shots from 2016.

ARCHIVES: TransWorld Surf Party 2004

The surfing legend, his protege and the super model.

On April 19, 2004 at a Chelsea night club, while on assignment for ABACA Press, I photographed surfing legend Sunny Garcia and a young, soon to be, big wave champion, Makua Rothman. Both are from Hawaii and it was their first time ever, in New York City. Transworld Surf magazine and Woman Model Mngmnt were celebrating the release of TransWorld SURF’s first-ever bikini edition.

After I captured the relevant celebs that attended the party, as my assignment dictated, I went upstairs to the VIP area to get a shot of Garcia and Rothman. I got invited to have a drink. Sunny's wife at the time, Reina, Victoria Secret model, Ana Beatriz Barros and model Isabeli Fontana were also on hand. Barros and Fontana were there because they graced the pages of the magazine. After toasting a few glasses of champagne and playing paparazzi with the surf icon and his crew, we exited the club together, exchanged numbers and said our goodbyes. It was a memorable evening. Here are a few pics from my celebrity archive.
